Parish Groups and Societies

There are many ways people can become involved in the life of the parish and below are just some of the various groups, soladarities and activities, along with the contact details where appropriate - you will find photographs of some of the people on the Parish People page.  (If you prefer you can speak to Fr John or email the parish).

 

  St Vincent de Paul Society
Meets fortnightly on Monday
evenings in the Parish House

Question of Faith
is open to anyone who would
like to come and explore their faith
- Monday nights after evening Mass
in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel.

Children's Liturgy Group
All children aged 4+ years
are welcome to join the liturgy
the 10.30 am Mass on Sunday.
Anyone who would like to help should
ask Fr John or one of the leaders.
 Meditation Group
Following the morning mass
 the group meets in the Coffee Shop of
our Pastoral Centre for quiet prayer and
  reflection (10.45 - 12 noon). See Sr Lelia.
 Mother of Peace Support - Zimbabwe
This support was begun by Fr David Everitt
before his sad death in 2010.
The work is continued by Lynn, one of our
children's liturgy leaders, who visits the
community in Zimbabwe with gifts from
the parish and fundraises through the year.

 Prison Fellowship
This began in 2013 with a group that met at
St Joseph's Convent to pray for prisoners.

The group now meets in our Pastoral Center.

St Joseph's Altar Servers
Anyone who has made their First
Holy Communion and would like
to train to serve at the altar is
welcome.  Ask Fr John.
  Watermead Apostolate & Shop
Visit their website for details
of how to become involved.  For more
information speak to Fr John or Alison

Reading at Mass
If you would like to join the reading
rotas (whichever mass you attend)
then please tell Fr John and he will put
you in contact with the appropriate person.
The Saturday Folk Group
Plays at the 6.00 pm mass and
anyone who would like to join
them is welcomed.  Please see
Edward or Laura in the balcony.
St Joseph's Children's Music Group
Accompany the children's once-monthly
children's mass. The practice time
varies but usually on the Saturday before
the mass. Details from Alison:0116 2207881
 St Joseph's Choir
Sing at the 10.30 am Mass on Sunday.
They practice fortnightly on a
Tuesday evening (dependent on season).
Any singers welcomed.  Contact Alison.
Social Action
CAFOD is the official Catholic
aid agency for England & Wales.

Extraordinary Ministers of Eucharist
People are usually invited by Fr John
to become ministers. But if you are
new to the parish and have been
a minister in your previous parish,
please tell Fr John.
 Church Maintenance
Help is always welcomed.  Anyone who has
a few hours to space and would like to
help with the cleaning see Paula, our
church and hall housekeeper. Any other
skills offer to Fr John, he will be pleased.
Hospitality (Teas/Coffees)
Help is always appreciated.
Make yourself known to those
 currently serving (at either
church) and they will put you in
contact with the organisers. 
Parish Garden and Grounds
Various people look after the maintenance
of the parish garden and any who want to
help are welcome. Do offer your services
if you would like to help. Dominic and Dean
would also welcome help with the grass.
 Church Flowers
Although church displays are planned to
fit around the church seasons - extra
flower donations are always appreciated.

or Christine/Pauline at The Rosary Church.
 "Home from Home"
Is our parish recycling project -
with a difference! (Donations, please)
Access to the Home from Home shop
  is via the Coffee Shop and it is open
after morning mass on Thursdays, and
following the children's mass on
the first Sunday of each month.
Donations are shared with various
local, national and international
charities - please ask!
 St Joseph's Parish Community
is always open to new ideas,
groups and help!
